This is Commissioner Manfred's "Mountain" Landis Moment
Aloha, everyone,
100 years ago, "Mountain" Landis banned the Black Sox for life when they cheated in the World Series. This is MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred's once-in-a-lifetime moment. He holds the power to be just as puntative on the Cheating Astros.
Will he be a "Mountain" or a molehill?

The Cheating Astros Need Punishment the Players Will Feel Forever
Aloha, everybody,
The Houston Astros must be punished for their cheatin' ways, but the players won't feel a lost draft pick or two. The entire team should have their 2017 Postseason stats stripped from the record.

My Card Haul From the National (Brooklyn Dodgers Edition)
Aloha, everybody,
Yup, it's been a long time since I posted here. That wasn't exactly by choice, as my health took a hit and I was taken away from my online activities by more pressing matters.
Anyway, I'm recovered enough to return to the Blogosphere, and thankfully, well enough to travel to Chicago for the National (and out to Wrigley Field for a game). Boy, that was a fantastic trip.

Planning My National Trip. Seeking Advice From Chicagoans
Aloha, everybody,
I'm taking the leap, and traveling to Chicago this year for the big show ~ The National (July 31 - Aug. 4)
Since I've never been to Chicago before, I'm totally unfamiliar with the areas around the Donald E Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont and Wrigley Field. I'm also planning to take in a Cubs game.
I'm considering staying at the Comfort Suites in Schiller Park. Is this a sketchy area? If so, can anyone recommend another area?
I could use any and all advice about getting to Wrigley Field from Schiller Park. Are the trains easy to take? Safe? and so on.
Last, but not least, are any of you down for a beer while I'm in town? Of course, that goes for anybody else who might be traveling to the National also. I'd love to have a get-together with my fellow collector/traders.
One more ~ how about must see spots while I'm there. Are there any places that were featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives that I should check out? How about the best spot for deep dish Chicago pizza? I loooooove deep dish.
I'm looking at Base Card Hero, Dime Box Nick, The Hopeful Chase, Waiting Till Next Year, Wrigley Roster Jenga, and anyone else out there.
Just drop a word in the comments below, or an email to me. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, aloha!

Aloha, everybody,
LA Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested for domestic violence. That would be bad enough, but this is not an isolated case. This is, unfortunately, the latest and most public in a line of ugly incidents involving young Dodger players.

Am I the Only One Worried When Kenley Jansen Pitches?
Aloha, everybody,
Has anyone else noticed Kenley Jansen isn't exactly the dominant pitcher we thought we were getting when he signed that mega-money contract?
He's barely pretty good, and frankly, he worries me when he takes the mound with a slim lead.
Bonus: Let's look at the Jackie Robinson Night fan jersey.

Dodgers Offered Bryce Harper $45 mil - Their Minor Leaguers? Scraps
Aloha, everybody,
The Dodgers' $45 million offer to Bryce Harper has shown how much they will print money to land one player. Lots of fans were happy to hear the Dodgers were willing to do that.
That generous offer got me to thinking about something else. It also highlighted their (and all MLBs) resistance to pay a living wage to minor league ballplayers.

Used Vinyl Review: Downy Mildew
Aloha, everybody,
Let's take a look at one of my favorite alt-rock bands to come out of the late 80s - early 90s.
The first wave of Punk rock and New Wave were fading. New bands were popping up across the country and college radio was exposing me to their new sounds weekly.
Downy Mildew hit the spot with male/female vocalists, moody, atmospheric tunes and tight musicianship. They come highly recommended.

Cardboard Goodies Arrive From a Collecting Legend
Aloha, everybody,
There's only one man I know who retires from the game, but still continues to lay it down twice as hard as many of us shmucks who claim to be relevant in the collecting game.
Of course I'm talking about none other than mi hermano from Hazel Green. Of course you know him too, as many of you received packages from good ol' Wes recently.
I've seen your blog posts showing off the cardboard goodies that he rained upon you. Autographs, memorabilia cards, limited editions - Wes brought all of it.
Lemme tell ya, he hit me with a package that blew...me...away. There was so much cardboard goodness in there, I had to make two videos to showcase it all.
So indulge me, collecting brethren and sistren (?), as I submit for your approval, Part 1 of the Alabama Surprise. THANKS, hermano!

Vinyl Review: Solo LPs from Mick Taylor and Dave Edmunds
Aloha, everybody,
Let's take a jump back and review some vintage albums from new wave/rock guitarist, Dave Edmunds and ex-Rolling Stones axeman, Mick Taylor.
Taylor's guitar play opposite Keith Richards produced some of my all-time favorite Stones albums. I love the spacey blues with a Santana vibe that he brought.
Here's a look at the solo album he released three years after leaving the band.
Do you remember "Crawling from the Wreckage (and into a brand new caaarrrrr."? There's a lot more than that to enjoy in Dave Edmunds' solo effort.

It's Been Too Long Since This Arrived From Too Many Verlanders
Aloha, everybody,
Happy 2019! I've got a few bits of news to drop on you all, and the first order of business is this new YouTube video showing off the holiday cardboard goodies that I received from my long-time trading partner, Dennis, over at Too Many Verlanders. Hope you'll check it out.
I also hope that you'll continue to check out the content on my NEW YouTube channel - NetChucArts. This ATBATT video is its inaugural upload.
I created the new channel because I'll be expanding the vaiety and amount of YouTube content I'll be creating in 2019. I'll still be creating Dodgers news and opinion videos, but those will remain on the LA Dodger Report channel.
I'll be filling NetChucArts, my new YouTube channel, with content about our card collecting hobby, as well as beer reviews, my quest to rebuild my vinyl records collection, and whatever else should strike me as video-worthy.
In addition, I'll also be showcasing my art work on the new channel. A couple of you know that I'm an artist, so I look forward to you joining me on YouTube as I share my creations. Perhaps we'll shift those shares into the next level as you bring some of my original art into your own homes.
That's all to come as 2019 unfolds. Please enjoy my first upload and take a few seconds to Like and Subscribe to my new channel.
Aloha!
