The Dodgers are starting off the season strong, with two shutouts against the San Diego Padres. Hope your team is doing great - unless of course (sorry, Arpsmith), it's the Giants.
As noted in my previous post, my humble little blog has passed the magic number of 100,000 views. I suppose that number means little in these days of million-view sites, but it sure is big to me.
I started ATBATT in September, 2011, with the hopes of drumming up a few trades across the country. Little did I know I would help the USPS, and the US economy in general, by eventually shipping and receiving more cardboard than I can count, and making gen-yoo-ine friends along the way.
For you nostalgia nuts, here are the first words I wrote as a rookie blogger:
"I'm gonna post cards here with no presumption that i'm a witty writer like all you other guys. i love baseball and baseball cards, but i cant even compete with the bloggers who know what year the 'c' on the cubbies caps was changed."And here's the first baseball card I posted...
I wrote, "Is it me, or do the fireworks look like an asterisk?"
In honor of many great trades, being welcomed into our wonderful cardboard community, and meeting so many cool people, I'm putting on a humble little contest.
It's not terribly complicated to enter, but you will have to do a bit more than click below and say "Hello".
I figure since I did some lifting to get to 100,000 - entrants for this contest should put forth a bit of effort and mention an ATBATT first in your comment below. For example, the first person to ever comment on ATBATT, the first card shown for a particular team, and so on. Any first will do, the only requirement is you cannot repeat what someone else already mentioned.
I'll take all the comments and randomize them to get a winner; you know the drill. The prize will be a fistful of cardboard and some other collecting goodies to make your research worthwhile. I'll keep the contest open until Friday of this week, midnight PST.
Well, what'r you waitin' for? Get to enterin'. Aloha!
ATBATT was the first blogger I talked to about my love for craft beer.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you, Matt, we opened a new angle in our community!
DeleteHow about the first time I featured you on my blog as part of an interview? http://fanofreds.blogspot.com/2014/12/theme-week-better-know-blogger-stealing.html
ReplyDeleteNice one! What a trip down memory lane that was :)
DeleteThe first Cubs card posted on ATBATT featuring a single player showed Fergie Jenkins (1967 Topps). Of course I was going to take a Cubs angle - congrats on the milestone!
ReplyDeleteI also mentioned the Cubbies in my first blogger words. Fancy that.
DeleteHow about this is the first time I've left a comment on ATBATT, does that count?
ReplyDeleteIt'll certainly do - with the hopes it won't be the last comment here :)
DeleteFirst post on a Sunday--Sept 18 2011
ReplyDeleteShhhh...mom thinks I was in church
DeleteFirst post full of my Rangers was 9/29/2011. Congrats on the milestone.
ReplyDeleteYou've been around since my very first post. Thanks a bunch for helping me get started.
DeleteATBATT was the first to like one of my Twitter posts . Congrats on the 100,000.
ReplyDeleteHa - I'm still trying to figure out the Twitter!
DeleteThe first time you wrote up a trade post on one of our deals!

That was a great trade - my first Nomo swatch and my 58 Carl Furillo!
DeleteGreat stuff for my collection. Thanks!
September 21, 2011, the first ATBATT post I ever read.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the read and all the others!
DeleteUm, howbout the first time anyone used the phrase "poodle poop" in a comment on an ATBATT post. Poodle Poop. There, I did it.
ReplyDeleteOk, here's a better one, this right now is the first time I realized your blog's abbreviation can be pronounced "at bat".. that's pretty cool, and I can't believe I never noticed that before.
Lol on that sneaking by you, G.
DeleteThe first time I realized that "All Trade Bait, All The Time" was "ATBATT" - or "At Bat" - was like the 15th time I visited the blog. WEAK.
ReplyDeleteAlso, yours is the first trade bait page I've ever seen that isn't centered around "Hits" (i.e. autos, relics, and #ed cards). Kudos!
Thanks for the kudos.
DeleteCollecting is much more than just the hits for more than a few of us :)
28 April 2016, the first time you will post a card of the Flying Dutchman Bert Blyleven ?!? :-)) congrats on this major milestone !!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure this is the first time my comments received a prediction.
DeleteThanks for the congrats!
ATBATT was the first person who had ever said I'd actually kept my cards in quite good condition -- which really surprised me, because I always thought I had mangled them!
ReplyDeleteDoes that work? :-)
A bit late to enter, but first Coors Field card (Dee Gordon on the road) was November 2, 2011. The first Rockies card took another month, on December 5th, 2011.
ReplyDeletefirst mention of gcrl (9/22/11). best wishes for a full recovery to your mother.
