THANKS to everyone who participated in the first two rounds. This is the second to the last round, in which i will post the prizes for third place. the final round will feature the final two tiers of prizes.
todays question is based in our shared love of collecting cards. if you were limited to focusing and collecting only one aspect of cards, what would it be? for example, would you collect ONLY relics, only autographed cards? only one player or one team? only hall of famers, only vintage? only guys in catchers gear? ..and so on.
this can be answered in the following ways for the following points:
1 point: name the aspect.
2 points: why
3 points: post a link here to a previous post on your blog along these same lines.
4 points: post about it on your blog and post the link in the comments below.
BTW: the black borders are very nice on this card. the spots and such are from the penny sleeve. |
Next post: The Final Round !
A tough one to answer indeed! I'd say player collect, and it's a toss-up between Matt Kemp and Ryan Getzlaf. Though Kemp is my favorite athlete and plays for my favorite team, Getzlaf has much more affordable cards.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it would ultimately depend on my budget.

1 bonus point for Dodger bloggers hitting 1,2,3 in the comments section. you, speigel and gcrl all get a bonus.
total points: 14
I would stick to being just a Dodger collector. They are my favorite team and have so many cards out there and some star players on the team.
ReplyDeletethanks. total points: 9
DeleteFYI: you picked up a bonus point bcuz you, gcrl and greg made it a 1,2,3 Dodgers combo in the first three comments.
DeleteI'm with spiegel. I'd stick with dodger cards. That would still allow me to keep most of the garvey, cey and Lopes cards in my collection.
ReplyDeletethanks ! i thought you might focus only on 'the infield'.

Deleteas far as baseball goes, I've pretty much already done this. I go for team sets from as many sets as I can of the Braves. I've been working on this for a couple of years now going back to 1951.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be able to flip through binders from year to year and see the changes of the team. Especially in the years that I've watched them.... I can think back and remember the transaction, or laugh and say, "wow! I forgot about him!"
This is the way that keeps me closest to my team.
Go Braves!
bonus point for having blogged about this for years.

I think I would just keep collecting my Cardinals cards. Why, because I still get to see my favorite players on cardboard and because they are my favorite team ever!
ReplyDeletethanks !

If I had to narrow it down, and this would be tought, I'd go with collecting only vintage Tigers. It's my team, and vintage cards are the most interesting to me. Every time I pick up a musty-smelling new piece of vintage, it's just more exciting than any new card could ever be.
ReplyDeletethanks, dude

I would stick to just Rockies cards, that has been my focus for a few years now, and remains the priority in my collecting. I'm with Captain Canuck in that I like to go back and see how the roster has changed over the years.
ReplyDeletecool.

I would love to complete a vintage set like quite a few bloggers have done, but ultimately the funnest thing for me is Braves baseball collecting. And I don't just do cardboard rectangles-I collect posters, stickers, autographed balls, hats, ...I could go on... I just love the team and there's a lot of history around it. That may well satisfy my vintage craving by itself. So yeah.
ReplyDeleteAnd how about my inaugural post for as much as a mission statement, per se.

A totally not fun thought of having to only collect one thing but a fun post to write. Mets would be the way for me.

I'd only collect Canadian ballplayers which is pretty much what I already do on my blog:

I would focus on George Brett. He became my favorite player in 1980 when I saw him play Detroit (my only Tigers game) and he hit a home run then the next time charged the mound after Milt Wilcox tried to hit him twice. http://sascards67.blogspot.com/2012/04/oddball-cards-part-6-george-brett.html

I already only limit myself to just Twins cards. I have several binders full, so I HAVE to limit myself!
ReplyDeletewelcome to the contest !

Well, if this is still open, I'd say Cardinals cards, because that's a big part of what I seek now. Although, it'd be hard to give up chasing complete sets.
ReplyDeleteWhat one thing? ROYALS
ReplyDelete(that's not too much of a stretch for me, since that's all I collect now in MLB, although I do enjoy some NFL stuff)
Why? KC always has been, and still is, MY TEAM. I grew up in Iowa and my first game was a Royals game in 1986. They were good and fun to watch. Now me = hooked into a lifetime of Royals-fan-sadness.
